Regular Season Round 5: Guaymas - Culiacan 89-92

Important game to mention about took place in Guaymas. Third ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (7-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (4-5) 92-89 on Saturday evening. Caballeros de Culiacan dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Ostioneros de Guaymas' 30. Caballeros de Culiacan forced 22 Ostioneros de Guaymas turnovers. Strangely Ostioneros de Guaymas outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 56-44 including a 42-30 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ostioneros de Guaymas were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) stepped up and scored 28 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and American guard Teyvion Kirk (193-1999, college: UIC) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Antwon Lillard (198-1995, college: BGSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and the other American import forward Daytone Jennings (206-1997, college: CSUSB) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds. Four Caballeros de Culiacan and five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Caballeros de Culiacan used an opportunity after Astros lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side keep the fifth place with five games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against league's leader Astros in Guadalajara in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play at home against Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
