Regular Season Round 5: Los Mochis - Astros 92-102

Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-6) lost at home to first ranked Astros (7-3) 102-92 on Saturday. Astros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Shamorie Ponds (185-1998, college: St.John's) nailed 24 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and his fellow American import Lagerald Vick (196-1997, college: Kansas) accounted for 25 points and 5 rebounds. Swiss point guard Jordan Stevens (182-1994, college: Midwestern St.) came up with 44 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 9 assists and American power forward Kwame Alexander (201-1990, college: CSUSB, agency: BIG) added 16 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Pioneros Los Mochis in the defeat. Five Astros and four Pioneros Los Mochis players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Astros have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Astros maintains first place with 7-3 record, which they share with Culiacan. Pioneros Los Mochis lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with Obregon. Astros will meet league's second-placed Caballeros de Culiacan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Venados (#8) in Mazatlan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
