Date: March 31, 2023
No shocking result in a game when first ranked Vaqueros (4-1) beat 5th ranked Leones (1-3) in Juana Diaz 91-83 on Friday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Vaqueros made 8 blocks. The former international forward Benito Santiago (197-1989, college: Cumberlands) nailed 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and the former international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-1989, college: NC State) accounted for 16 points and 8 assists. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Cameron Oliver (203-1996, college: Nevada) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) added 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Leones in the defeat. Five Vaqueros and four Leones players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Vaqueros have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 4-1 record. Leones lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Guaynabo. Vaqueros will meet Cariduros (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leones will play against the league's second-placed Atleticos and hope to win that game.
