Regular Season Round 19: Puerto Varas - Espanol T. 112-66
Date: April 1, 2023
Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Puerto Varas (10-10) rolled over at home 13th ranked Espanol T. (4-12) 112-66 on Saturday. Puerto Varas dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Espanol T.'s 38 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Puerto Varas forced 19 Espanol T. turnovers and outrebounded them 44-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Espanol T.'s players. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Cameron Naylor (202-1994, college: Texas St.) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Carlos Villagran (185-2000) accounted for 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Worth to mention Naylor played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Puerto Varas players scored in double figures. American forward Davon Haynes (203-1991, college: UAPB) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and Canadian forward Kaleb Vaughn (198, college: Lake Erie) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Espanol T. in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Puerto Varas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain ninth place with 10-10 record. Espanol T. lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Puerto Varas will meet league's second-placed Los Leones in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Espanol T. will play against Puente Alto (#4) and hope to secure a win.
