Regular Season Round 47: Penarol - Gimnasia 80-78

A very close game took place in Mar del Plata between Penarol and Gimnasia CR. Eighth ranked Penarol (19-12) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed Gimnasia CR (25-10). Penarol managed to escape with a 2-point win 80-78 on Monday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Gimnasia CR. Penarol dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia CR's 24 and made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for guard Facundo Tolosa (190-2002) who led the winners and scored 32 points and 6 rebounds. Ignacio Bednarek (206-2001) accounted for 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) came up with 22 points and 9 rebounds and Cuban swingman Marcos Chacon (194-2003, agency: Pro Sports) added 21 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for Gimnasia CR in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Penarol moved-up to seventh place. Loser Gimnasia CR keeps the third position with ten games lost. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gimnasia CR will play against Argentino in Junin and hope to secure a win.
