There was a minor upset when 4th placed Catanduva (2-3) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Vera Cruz (2-3) 86-63 on Wednesday. Vera Cruz dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Catanduva's 38. Vera Cruz forced 21 Catanduva turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The former international guard Beatriz Oliveira (169-1995) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists for the winners and the former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Cuban point guard Ineidis Casanova (162-1988) responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Adrielly Oliveira (193-2002) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vera Cruz moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Catanduva. Vera Cruz will meet league's leader Sesi/Arara. in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Catanduva will play against LSB (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
