The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Piratas (8-1) in La Guaira on Monday night. Hosts were edged by second ranked Guaiqueries (6-5) 67-65. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Piratas. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Piratas 44-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Nigerian swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-1994, college: UCF) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Tre McLean (197-1993, college: Chattanooga) who added 14 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Dominican point guard Miguel Dicent (190-1994, college: Morehead St.) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Piratas' coach Melvyn Lopez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries maintains second position with 6-5 record behind leader Piratas, which they share with Panteras. Piratas at the other side still keep top place with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
