The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Piratas (8-3) in Bayamon on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by Vaqueros (8-2) 75-70. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 7 rebounds. The former international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-1989, college: NC State) contributed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American center Hassan Whiteside (213-1989, college: Marshall) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international guard Tyquan Rolon (192-1995, college: LeMoyne) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Piratas. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-2 record which they share with defeated Piratas. Piratas at the other side still keep top position with three games lost. Vaqueros are looking forward to face Mets (#5) in Guaynabo in the next round. Piratas will play at home against Osos (#6) and are hoping to win this game.
