There was no surprise in Guadalajara where 6th ranked Venados (9-11) were crushed by second ranked Astros (13-7) 113-84 on Friday. Astros made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Astros outrebounded Venados 46-29 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Astros made 7 blocks. The game was also dominated by American players. Forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Lagerald Vick (196-1997, college: Kansas) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Astros players scored in double figures. At the losing side power forward Alex Kaye Williams (203-1993) responded with 16 points and Leroy Davis (198-1981, college: Georgia St.) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Astros maintains second position with 13-7 record having just three points less than leader Hermosillo. Loser Venados dropped to the fourth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Tijuana and Guaymas. Astros will meet at home Pioneros Los Mochis (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Venados will play against Tijuana Zonkeys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
