There was a surprise result in Guadalajara where sixth ranked Venados (9-11) beat much higher ranked Astros (13-7) 103-98 on Saturday. Venados forced 20 Astros turnovers. Strangely Astros outrebounded Venados 46-34 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American guard Jeff Ledbetter (191-1988, college: Idaho, agency: Slash Sports) had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Jalek Felton (190-1998, college: UNC) chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side Nigerian-American forward Emmanuel Omogbo (203-1995, college: Colorado St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and American guard Shamorie Ponds (185-1998, college: St.John's) scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Venados moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tijuana and Guaymas. Newly promoted Astros keep the second position with seven games lost. Venados will meet at home Tijuana Zonkeys (#4) in the next round. Astros will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to secure a win.
