Puerto Rico
Regular Season Round 14: Mayaguez - Guaynabo 78-86
Date: April 18, 2023
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Mets (4-8) beat one of their biggest challengers Indios (6-7) in Mayaguez 86-78 on Tuesday. Mets looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international point guard Gary Browne (185-1993, college: WVU) notched 20 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and Australian swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) supported him with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Mets players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds by international forward Jordan Cintron (203-1998, college: Niagara) did not help to save the game for Indios. American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the hosts. Indios' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mets have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 4-8 record. Loser Indios keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Mets will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Indios will play against the league's second-placed Cariduros (#2) in Fajardo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
