Regular Season Round 18: Gaiteros - Guaros 98-90

Round in SPB means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Maracaibo where host Gaiteros (8-6) beat league's leader Guaros (10-4) 98-90 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Guaros. Gaiteros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Matthew Butler (188-1995, college: UT Martin) who scored 23 points and 4 assists. The former international forward Lenin Lopez (198-1991) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Gaiteros' coach Jorge Arrieta used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Orlando Coleman (196-1992, college: Texas Southern) who recorded 28 points and the former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-1982, agency: Pro Sports) added 16 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Five Gaiteros and four Guaros players scored in double figures. Gaiteros maintains fifth position with 8-6 record, which they share with Heroes. Guaros at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Trotamundos. They were replaced at the leadership position by Gladiadores. Guaros will play next round against strong Brillantes trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Gaiteros will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Taurinos in La Asuncion.
