Regular Season Round 8: Defenders - Panthers 105-60

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Defenders (6-4) crushed bottom-ranked Panthers (1-10) in Belize City 105-60 on Friday. The winners were led by American swingman Nigel Jones (201-1990, college: Talladega) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Treandus Branch supported him with 28 points and 9 rebounds. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Defenders players scored in double figures. Defenders' coach Matthew Smiling felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds by Delmore Sentino did not help to save the game for Panthers. Chance Leslie added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Defenders have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 6-4 record. Panthers lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Defenders' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Belize City Hurricanes.
