Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Gladiadores (#1) and Panteras (#5). Gladiadores (14-2) smashed visiting Panteras (9-8) by 25 points 86-61. The winners were led by international point guard Gregory Vargas (181-1986, agency: Pro Sports) who scored that evening 17 points and 9 assists and American swingman David Nickelberry (201-1998, college: Buffalo) supported him with 17 points. Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. Even 13 points by American guard Avry Holmes (185-1994, college: Clemson) did not help to save the game for Panteras. The former international swingman Pedro Chourio (186-1990, agency: Pro Sports) added 12 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gladiadores have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-2 record. Panteras lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third place with eight games lost. Gladiadores will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Panteras will play on the road against Gigantes in Puerto Ordaz and hope to get back on the winning track.
