Rather predictable result in Mazatlan where fifth ranked Venados (12-12) defeated bottom-ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (6-18) 98-89 on Tuesday. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. The best player for the winners was guard Jeff Ledbetter (191-1988, college: Idaho, agency: Slash Sports) who scored 16 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-1988, college: Oregon, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 16 points and 7 assists. Strowbridge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Justin Everett (206-1996, college: Humboldt St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and guard Jimmy Whitt (190-1997, college: Arkansas, agency: Interperformances) added 29 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Five Venados and four Halcones de Ciudad Obregon players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Venados have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tijuana. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Venados will meet Pioneros Los Mochis (#7) on the road in the next round. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play against Caballeros de Culiacan and hope to secure a win.
