There was no surprise in Mazatlan where 8th ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (6-18) was defeated by fifth ranked Venados (12-12) 112-106 on Wednesday. Venados looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. The best player for the winners was guard Jeff Ledbetter (191-1988, college: Idaho, agency: Slash Sports) who scored 45 points (!!!) and 7 assists. Leroy Davis (198-1981, college: Georgia St.) chipped in 21 points. Venados' coach James Penny used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Jimmy Whitt (190-1997, college: Arkansas, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 31 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and guard Grantham Gillard (193-1997, college: Arkansas St.) added 22 points respectively. Four Halcones de Ciudad Obregon players scored in double figures. Venados have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tijuana. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Venados will meet Pioneros Los Mochis (#7) on the road in the next round. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play against Caballeros de Culiacan and hope to secure a win.
