We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when sixth ranked Spartans (7-7) defeated 5th ranked Guaiqueries (8-8) in Porlamar 79-71 on Thursday. Spartans dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Guaiqueries' 30. American forward Will Davis II (203-1992, college: UC Irvine) notched 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward Branden Dawson (200-1993, college: Michigan St.) supported him with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Spartans' coach Nestor Salazar used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 14 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Tre McLean (197-1993, college: Chattanooga) did not help to save the game for Guaiqueries. The former international point guard David Cubillan (181-1987, college: Marquette) added 18 points and 4 assists for lost side. Spartans have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 7-7 record. Guaiqueries lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with eight games lost. Spartans will meet Cangrejeros (#9) in the next round.
