There was an upset when 3rd placed Caballeros de Culiacan (14-12) was defeated at home by bottom-ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-19) 111-94 on Friday. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 44. They outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 39-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. American forward Tony Farmer (201-1994, college: Lee JC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Jimmy Whitt (190-1997, college: Arkansas, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 28 points and 7 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field). At the losing side American guard Teyvion Kirk (193-1999, college: UIC) responded with 20 points and Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) scored 20 points and 4 steals. Four Halcones de Ciudad Obregon and five Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon maintains eighth place with 7-19 record. Loser Caballeros de Culiacan keeps the third position with 12 games lost. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will meet at home league's second-placed Astros in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to secure a win.
