Regular Season Round 22: Bayamon - Arecibo 96-82

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bayamon. First ranked Vaqueros faced their biggest opponent Capitanes. Host Vaqueros (12-5) defeated guests from Arecibo (10-8) 96-82. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Capitanes' 46. Vaqueros forced 20 Capitanes turnovers. Strangely Capitanes outrebounded Vaqueros 41-29 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Braxton Key (203-1997, college: Virginia) who helped to win the game recording 23 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American-North Macedonian center Jacob Wiley (203-1994, college: EWU) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American power forward Paris Bass (207-1995, college: Detroit) replied with 17 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import center Thomas Robinson (208-1991, college: Kansas) added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Capitanes. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-5 record. Capitanes at the other side dropped to the third place with eight games lost. Vaqueros will play against Osos (#6) in Manati in the next round where they are favorite. Capitanes will play on the road against Indios in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
