Regular Season Round 5: Leones - Gimnastico 80-88

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Leones (2-1) in San Pablo on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by Gimnastico (2-0) 88-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Leones. It was a key game for the top position in the league. American guard Brandi Beasley (168-1997, college: Illinois) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Italian-Argentinian Daniela Dublo (184-1988) contributed with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American guard Deja Church (178-1998, college: DePaul) answered with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and Spanish Laia Soler (185-2001, college: Boise St.) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Leones. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gimnastico keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Alemana P. Leones at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Gimnastico is looking forward to face Sportiva Ita. (#4) in Valparaiso in the next round. Leones will play on the road against New Crusaders in Valparaíso and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
