Regular Season Round 27: Piratas - Gigantes 109-92

There was no surprise in La Guaira where 7th ranked Gigantes (6-12) were defeated by third ranked Piratas (11-5) 109-92 on Thursday. Piratas forced 19 Gigantes turnovers. It was a great evening for Dominican Rigoberto Mendoza (190-1992) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) helped adding 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-1978) with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard DaQuan Brooks (177-1990, college: W.Connecticut) scored 16 points and 5 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas maintains third place with 11-5 record having 5 victories less than leader Gladiadores. Gigantes lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 12 games lost. Piratas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gigantes will play against Cangrejeros (#10) and hope to secure a win.
