The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Vaqueros' (14-5) home victory over second-best Gigantes (12-8) 103-78 on Monday. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Javier Mojica (189-1984, college: CCSU) who scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Braxton Key (203-1997, college: Virginia) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import Victor Rudd (206-1991, college: S.Florida) added 8 points and 4 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vaqueros have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 14-5 record. Loser Gigantes keep the second place with eight games lost. Vaqueros will meet Cangrejeros (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Gigantes will play against Osos and hope to secure a win.
