Regular Season Round 6: New Crusaders - Leones 56-81

Everything could happen in Valparaíso at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Leones and one of their biggest challengers New Crusaders had identical 2-1 record. But New Crusaders were not able to use a home court advantage and were rolled over by the opponent from San Pablo 81-56 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Leones forced 19 New Crusaders turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Leones made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Spanish Laia Soler (185-2001, college: Boise St.) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 blocks. American guard Deja Church (178-1998, college: DePaul) chipped in 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Leones' coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Cuban Arleny Gonzalez (185-1987) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and Valentina Fernandez (-2005) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Leones (3-1) keep a position of league leader. Loser New Crusaders keep the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Osorno and Temuco. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
