Regular Season Round 1: Caneros - Marineros 101-71

Rather expected game in La Romana where Marineros were rolled over by Caneros 101-71 on Sunday. Caneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Marineros' players. American power forward Jeff Allen (201-1987, college: Virginia Tech) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Cornelius Hudson (200-1993, college: Wake Forest) chipped in 21 points and 4 assists. Four Caneros players scored in double figures. At the losing side naturalized American Luis Jacobo (196-1991, college: PFW) responded with 13 points and forward Shamil Ballas (198-1994) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Caneros will meet at home Leones in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Marineros will play against Titanes in San Cristobal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
