No shocking result in a game when Abejas (1-3) beat Correcaminos (1-5) in Leon 83-68 on Thursday. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Correcaminos' 40. They outrebounded Correcaminos 50-33 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Abejas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Correcaminos' players. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan guard Waleska Perez (180-1994, college: Weatherford JC) who led the winners and scored 7 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. American center Rachel Hollivay (196-1993, college: Rutgers) accounted for 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Abejas' coach Carlos Gorosito used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Brittany Byrd (176-1997, college: UIC) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import forward Dasia Evans (188, college: Wright St.) added 15 points respectively for Correcaminos in the defeat. Abejas will meet Astros (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Correcaminos will have a break next round.
