Regular Season Round 7: Gimnastico - Quilpue 135-37
Date: May 20, 2023
Everything went according to plan in Vina del Mar where third ranked Gimnastico (3-1) outscored 5th ranked Quilpue (1-3) 135-37 on Saturday. Gimnastico dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Quilpue's 22 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Gimnastico forced 40 Quilpue turnovers and outrebounded them 49-24 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Quilpue's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gimnastico made 7 blocks. Italian-Argentinian Daniela Dublo (184-1988) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Fernanda Ovalle (178-2003, college: Xavier) chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Five Gimnastico players scored in double figures. Catherine Caceres (-1992) produced 9 points and 6 steals and Josefa Arellano added 7 points respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gimnastico keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Quilpue keeps the fifth place with three games lost. Gimnastico will meet Llolleo (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Quilpue will play against the league's second-placed Leones in San Pablo and hope to win that game.
