Regular Season Round 30: Humacao - Bayamon 100-97

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Vaqueros (16-9) in Humacao on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by sixth ranked Grises (9-16) 100-97. Grises shot 61.4 percent from the field. Strangely Vaqueros outrebounded Grises 30-16 including 20 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. Grises looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American point guard Travis Trice II (183-1993, college: Michigan St.) scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and Panamanian-American center Akil Mitchell (206-1992, college: Virginia) chipped in 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Grises players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and international guard Stephen Thompson Jr (194-1997, college: Oregon St.) scored 22 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Grises have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 9-16 record. Defending champion Vaqueros still keep top place with nine games lost. They share the position with San German. Grises are looking forward to face league's leader Piratas in Quebradillas in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Vaqueros will have a break next round.
