Regular Season Round 12: Libertad A. - San Jose 79-87
Date: May 22, 2023
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Asuncion: San Jose (#1) and Libertad A. (#5). Libertad A. was defeated at home 79-87 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. San Jose made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian forward Franco Benitez (199-1994) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds and Argentinian swingman Lucas Gargallo (196-1995) who added 11 points and 5 assists during the contest. San Jose's coach Daniel Cano allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international Rodney Mercado (191-1999) with 25 points and 6 rebounds and the former international forward Jorge Sequera (194-1988) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four San Jose and five Libertad A. players scored in double figures. San Jose (12-0) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 12 victories in a row. Libertad A. at the other side keeps the fifth place with six games lost. San Jose's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Asuncion to the arena Olimpia K..
