Regular Season Round 8: Frontera - Temuco 87-61
Date: May 27, 2023
Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Temuco: Frontera (#2) and Temuco (#4). Frontera (6-1) smashed visiting Temuco (4-3) by 26 points 87-61. Frontera forced 24 Temuco turnovers and outrebounded them 44-30 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international Josefina Viafora (185-1999) who scored that evening 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Damaris Alarcon (167-2003) supported her with 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Even a double-double of 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by American forward Jessica Martino (175-2000, college: Delaware St.) did not help to save the game for Temuco. Argentinian center Melisa Cejas (186-1984) added 14 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Frontera maintains second position with 6-1 record having just 2 victories less than leader CDSC, which they share with Sergio Ceppi. Loser Temuco keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Frontera will meet at home Conce (#6) in the next round. Temuco will play against Laja in Concepcion and hope to secure a win.
