Regular Season Round 5: Abejas - Freseras 70-57

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Freseras (1-9) lost to ninth ranked Abejas (2-6) in Leon 57-70 on Monday. Abejas outrebounded Freseras 41-27 including 34 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Zada Williams (188-1996, college: Florida) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Venezuelan guard Waleska Perez (180-1994, college: Weatherford JC) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Abejas' coach Carlos Gorosito used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) came up with 13 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Caitlin Bickle (185-2000, college: Baylor) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Freseras in the defeat. Abejas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Plateras. Loser Freseras stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Abejas will meet higher ranked Halcones (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Freseras will play against Correcaminos (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
