Second ranked Caldas (5-3) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 3rd placed Azucareras (2-6) 54-53 on Thursday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Valentina Lopez (-1994) who led the winners and scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. The former international center Libia De la Rosa (185-1992) accounted for 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international guard Mayra Caicedo (160-2000, college: Tarleton St.) came up with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Karla Mancilla (-2002) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Azucareras in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Caldas. Newly promoted Caldas maintains second place with 5-3 record having just one point less than leader Indeportes. Azucareras lost their fourth game in a row. Azucareras at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Caldas will play against Escuela (#4) in the next round. Azucareras will play against Raptors and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
