Regular Season Round 7: Leones - Metros 89-78

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Leones as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Reales) loss. Leones defeated 8th ranked Metros in Santo Domingo 89-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Metros. Leones players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Jaison Valdez (188-1995) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals. Diego Colon (192-2001) accounted for 27 points for the winning side. Jhery Matos (196-1996, college: Charlotte) came up with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and Jean-Karlo Iciano (189-1997, college: Dyersburg St.) added 19 points respectively for Metros in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Reales. Metros at the other side stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. Metros will play next round against Soles trying to get back on the winning streak. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
