Regular Season Round 7: Marineros - Soles 104-97

There was a minor upset in Puerto Plata where 4th placed Soles (7-6) were defeated by seventh ranked Marineros (3-9) 104-97 on Wednesday. Marineros looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. U.S. Virgin Islands power forward Rakeem Christmas (206-1991, college: Syracuse) fired 23 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American point guard Manny Quezada (188-1985, college: USF) chipped in 15 points and 9 assists (made all of his seven free throws). Forward Anyeuri Castillo (201-1997, college: USC Aiken) produced 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American Fausto Pichardo (203-1995, college: Alabama St.) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Marineros and four Soles players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Marineros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 3-9 record. Loser Soles dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Marineros will meet at home higher ranked Titanes (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Soles will play against Metros in Santiago and hope to secure a win.
