Third-ranked Capitanes (17-15) made lots of trouble for first ranked Vaqueros (22-11) in Arecibo on Thursday. The visitors from Bayamon managed to secure only two-point victory 82-80. However their fans expected easier game. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Capitanes' 28. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-1992, college: Miami, FL, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. American-North Macedonian center Jacob Wiley (203-1994, college: EWU) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. American power forward Paris Bass (207-1995, college: Detroit) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and Dominican Victor Liz (190-1986) added 15 points and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vaqueros have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 22-11 record. Capitanes at the other side keep the third place with 15 games lost. Vaqueros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Capitanes will play on the road against Leones in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
