No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Halcones (8-8) beat 10th ranked Correcaminos (2-12) in Ciudad Victoria 64-56 on Tuesday. Halcones outrebounded Correcaminos 41-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American-Nigerian forward Amy Okonkwo (188-1996, college: TCU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and Canadian center Quinn Urbaniak-Dornstauder (193-1995, college: Arizona St.) supported her with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds by American forward Sarah Mgbeike (185, college: OLLU) did not help to save the game for Correcaminos. Her fellow American import guard Brittany Byrd (176-1997, college: UIC) added 14 points and 4 assists for the hosts. Halcones maintains sixth position with 8-8 record. Correcaminos lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Abejas. Halcones will meet at home higher ranked Astros (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Correcaminos will play against Plateras (#8) in Fresnillo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
