Regular Season Round 9: Halcones - Astros 73-77

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Astros' (12-4) road victory over 5th ranked Halcones (9-9) 77-73 on Monday. Strangely Halcones outrebounded Astros 36-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Joy Adams (180-1993, college: Iona) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. Her fellow American import guard Brooke McCarty-Williams (163-1995, college: Texas) chipped in 28 points and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was American-Nigerian forward Amy Okonkwo (188-1996, college: TCU) who recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and Venezuelan point guard Roselis Silva (166-1991, college: Arkansas Tech) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Astros moved-up to third place. Loser Halcones dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Astros will meet at home Plateras (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Halcones will play against Freseras in Irapuato and hope to secure a win.
