Regular Season Round 15: Verdirrojo - Tabare 68-61

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Tabare (8-4) against fourteenth ranked Verdirrojo (4-7) on Friday night. Visiting Tabare was defeated by Verdirrojo in a tough game in Montevideo 61-68. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Tabare. Verdirrojo made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tabare 47-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for American guard Robert Whitfield (190-1997, college: UMKC) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Power forward Alfonso Arrillaga (195-1996) helped adding 9 points and 12 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Nigerian power forward Prince Orizu (208-1994) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and American Anthony Danridge (196-1986, college: N.Mexico) scored 13 points. Tabare's coach Diego Palacios tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Verdirrojo have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Tabare dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Larranaga. Verdirrojo will meet higher ranked Colon (#12) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tabare will have a break next round.
