Bottom-ranked Montaneras (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 77-54 loss to third ranked Gigantes (4-1) in Carolina on Wednesday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Montaneras' 12. They outrebounded Montaneras 50-25 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gigantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Teana Muldrow (188-1995, college: WVU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import guard Selena Lott (180-1999, college: Marquette) chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-1986) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and American guard Katie Villarini (165, college: Buffalo St.) scored 14 points. Gigantes have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 4-1 record having 2 victories less than leader Manati. Loser Montaneras still closes the standings with six games lost. Gigantes will meet at home Hatillo (#5) in the next round. Montaneras will have a break next round.
