Undefeated Atenienses (6-1) recorded its first loss in Santurce on Friday night. Visitors were edged by fifth ranked Cangrejeras (3-2) 67-64. Cangrejeras outrebounded Atenienses 44-33 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was international guard Brianna Jones (177-1997, college: Georgetown, agency: Shark Sports Management) who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. American center Akela Maize (196-1996, college: NC State) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Shae Kelley (185-1991, college: Minnesota) produced 12 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import power forward Rebecca Tobin (195-1988, college: Arizona St.) added 7 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Atenienses players scored in double figures. Cangrejeras have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hatillo. Atenienses at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. Cangrejeras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atenienses will play on the road against Pollitas in Isabela and are hoping to win this game.
