Second Stage Round 2: Urunday - Welcome 99-69
Date: August 22, 2023
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Urunday and Welcome. Urunday smashed visiting Welcome by 30 points 99-69. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Welcome. Urunday made 25-of-32 charity shots (78.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Welcome turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Welcome was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American Tyrone Lee (203-1990, college: GVSU) notched 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and forward Demian Alvarez (193-1984, agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 23 points. Five Urunday players scored in double figures. Even 16 points and 4 assists by point guard Santiago Wohlwend (172-1997) did not help to save the game for Welcome. Mateo Bianchi (205-2002) added 16 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Urunday's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Larranaga.
