We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when Halcones UV Xalapa defeated Soles in Mexicali 87-79 on Friday. Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (202-1989, college: Texas St., agency: 011 Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) supported him with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Even 18 points and 5 rebounds by U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (201-1990, college: Murray St., agency: 011 Sports) did not help to save the game for Soles. Naturalized American point guard Eric Garcia (183-1994, college: Wofford) added 17 points and 4 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Halcones UV Xalapa will meet at home Plateros in the next round. Soles will play against Mineros in Zacatecas and hope to secure a win.
