Bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-85 loss to eighth ranked Santa Ana (3-9) in Chalchuapa on Wednesday evening. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 58-42 including 18 on the offensive glass. Dominican forward Frankyn Batista (198-1999, college: Pace) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 24 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American swingman Shian Bradshaw (194-1995, college: Wake Tech CC) chipped in 28 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Batista is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side naturalized Puerto Rican swingman Miguel Velez (185-1997, college: Hartnell JC) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Mercado (182-1987, college: App State) scored 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Santa Ana maintains eighth place with 3-9 record. Loser Chalchuapa still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Santa Ana will meet at home higher ranked San Salvador (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will have a break next round.
