Rather predictable result in Mar del Plata where fourteenth rankedZarate (11-14) defeated 16th ranked Penarol (9-16) 78-64 on Sunday. Strangely Penarol outrebounded Zarate 49-32 including a 14-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Zarate looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Point guard Lucas Andujar (185-1996) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists for the winners. Agustin Brocal (191-1997) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Zarate's coach Juan Anglese allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Joaquin Valinotti (185-1998) produced 21 points and 8 assists and American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) added 11 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Zarate moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Penarol keeps the sixteenth position with 16 games lost. Zarate will meet at home higher ranked Platense (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Penarol will have a break next round.
