There was no surprise whenPonta Grossa (0-5) was crushed on the road by Sao Jose (2-2) 82-57 on Sunday. Sao Jose dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Ponta Grossa 's 20. Sao Jose forced 23 Ponta Grossa turnovers and outrebounded them 46-32 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sao Jose looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for center Juliana Souza (185-1999) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. The former international forward Nany Carvalho (188-1997, college: Kansas) helped adding 12 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four Sao Jose players scored in double figures. Sao Jose's coach Leandro Leal felt very confident using entire bench saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Colombian guard Manuela Rios (165-1997) with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 assists and 7 steals and the former international power forward Karina Jacob (187-1985) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Sao Jose will meet at home Catanduva (#9) in the next round. Ponta Grossa will play against Campinas and hopes to get finally their first victory.
