The game had a very big importance for second-rankedIndios as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Indios defeated 4th placed Cangrejeros in Mayaguez 114-108 . Mayaguez made 27-of-32 charity shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Mayaguez outrebounded Santurce 51-35 including a 24-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mayaguez players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Santurce was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import Milton Doyle (193-1993, college: Loyola, IL) helped adding 21 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side American forward Jayden Martinez (201-2000, college: N.Texas) responded with 28 points and 9 rebounds and naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Santurce players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Santurce at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost.
