There was no surprise in La Guaira where 8th rankedCentauros (4-12) were defeated by fourth ranked Piratas (10-6) 82-73 on Thursday. Piratas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Centauros ' 32. They outrebounded Centauros 44-24 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Piratas made 10 blocks. American forward Michael Watkins (206-1995, college: Penn State) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Dominican Jhery Matos (196-1996, college: Charlotte, agency: BMS Sport Agency) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Lenin Lopez (198-1991) produced 16 points and 4 steals and swingman Melvin Zambrano (193-1995) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Four Piratas and five Centauros players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas moved-up to third place, which they share with Heroes. Centauros lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Llaneros.
