Regular Season Round 5: Leones - Costa Caribe 71-75

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua:Costa Caribe (#5) and Leones (#8). Leones were defeated at home 71-75 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Costa Caribe dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Leones ' 22. Costa Caribe forced 20 Leones turnovers and outrebounded them 47-29 including 32 on the offensive glass. Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-1992) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Andy Williams (200-2002) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Costa Caribe players scored in double figures. American swingman Deondre Wade (194, college: Seminole St.) answered with 28 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import point guard Brandon Lavernia (183-2000, college: Chatham) added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Leones. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion (4-2) moved-up to third place. Leones at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Indigenas.
