Regular Season Round 8: CDU Concepcion - Quimsa 97-99

Important game to mention about took place in Concepcion. Second ranked Argentinian Quimsa (2-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Chilean Universidad de Concepcion (0-3) 99-97 in the game for the second place. It looked good early as Universidad de Concepcion took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Quimsa had a 31-17 second period charge getting the lead and Universidad de Concepcion was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 97-99. Universidad de Concepcion was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Italian-Argentinian Leonardo Mainoldi (205-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Diamon Simpson (204-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Quimsa players scored in double figures. Quimsa's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Brandon Moss (208, college: LSUA) replied with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Blake Hamilton (198-94, college: Buffalo) added 26 points in the effort for Universidad de Concepcion. Defending Argentinian champion maintains second position in Group B with 2-1 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Caballos. Universidad de Concepcion at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. Quimsa will play against league's leader Sao Paulo on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Universidad de Concepcion will have a break next round.
