Regular Season Round 15: Caballos - Real Esteli 72-78

The most shocking disappointment of round 15 was a home defeat of second-best Panamanian Caballos (2-3) to third ranked Nicaraguan Real Esteli (3-2) 78-72. It was a key game for the top position in Group A. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-15. But Caballos won second period 23-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Real Esteli won last quarter 16-12. Real Esteli outrebounded Caballos 39-28 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Caballos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 6 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican Javier Mojica (190-84, college: CCSU, agency: Paris Global Sports) helped adding 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Ernesto Oglivie (199-89) with 16 points and 8 rebounds and forward Michael Hicks (196-76, college: TAMUCC) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Five Caballos players scored in double figures. Real Esteli keeps a position of Group A leader. Defending Panamanian champion Caballos dropped to the bottom place with three games lost. Real Esteli are looking forward to face league's second-placed Titanes in Barranquilla in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Caballos will play at home against the league's second-placed Titanes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
