Very important is a road loss of second ranked Mexcaltecas (3-3) against fourth ranked Barreteras (2-4) on Sunday night. Visiting Mexcaltecas were crushed by Barreteras in Zacatecas 88-64. Barreteras dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Mexcaltecas' 28 and made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Barreteras especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican point guard Kiara Quinones-Noa (165-93) who scored 24 points and 5 assists. The former international guard Paola Estrada (172-93, agency: DC Sports) chipped in 8 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Barreteras' coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Sofia Payan (167-0) who recorded 23 points and the former international forward Sofia Moreno (185-88) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Barreteras moved-up to third place, which they share with Quetzales and Racers. Mexcaltecas lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with three games lost. Barreteras' next round opponent will be Algodoneras (#5) in Torreon. Mexcaltecas will play on the road against the league's leader Lobas in Ciudad de Mexico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
